Membership Application Process

Before you apply to join…

Please read through this information before you complete Form A and then launch the BEACON New Members Application Form.

There are two types of membership :-

Individual – £10 per person – Littlehampton will be your Primary u3a.

Associate – £6.00 per person – you will have paid the full fee to another u3a.

Renewal payment is due by 1st March each year (for new members joining after 1 December 2024 the subscription will extend to the 1st of March the following year).

We use the Third Age Trust BEACON system to record your details and collect your membership payment. BEACON uses PayPal but you do not need a PayPal account to use this system. You can pay by debit or credit card as a Paypal Guest or by using your Paypal Account if you have one.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP

All members must:

  • Abide by the principles of the u3a movement.
  • Always act in the interests of the u3a and never do anything to bring the u3a into disrepute.
  • Abide by the terms and conditions of the Constitution.
  • Treat fellow members with respect and courtesy at all times.
  • Comply with and support the decisions of the elected committee.
  • Advise the committee of any change in your personal details.

You will be asked to indicate your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions on the form below. If you have any questions, please contact our Membership Secretary.

Weekly Bulletin

This is an information email to keep members informed of forthcoming and ad hoc events. It is usually sent out on Friday evening. We do recommend that you receive the Bulletin to avoid missing out on other important notices. If you would like us to send you the Bulletin please indicate on Form A below.

u3a Matters Magazine

u3a Matters Magazine is published five times a year and posted direct to members’ homes in an environmentally friendly paper wrapper. It is packed with stories about members and u3a activities, plus celebrity interviews and features on technology, recipes, travel, competitions, and a lively and popular letters section.

u3a MM can only be received from your Primary u3a so please do not choose to receive this if you are applying to be a Littlehampton u3a Associate Member.

u3a Matters magazine and Sources magazine are produced by the Third Age Trust. They hold members’ data and will not divulge this to other organisations or parties other than the distribution company.

If you would like to receive the u3a Matters Magazine please indicate on Form A below.

Privacy Statement

The BEACON form will ask for your personal contact details. Your name and address will be held on a database by the Littlehampton u3a and the Third Age Trust mailing house for the purposes set out below:

* To store it securely for membership and administrative purposes.

* To communicate with you as a U3A member.

* To share with group leaders and event organisers for those groups and events you have an interest in.

* To send you general information about the Third Age Trust (the national organisation to which U3As are affiliated).

Please indicate your acceptance of this in the data protection section of Form A. Remember you can request a change to your data permissions, or a change to your stored details at any time by contacting us.

If you are eligible for Gift Aid and would like Littlehampton u3a to collect Gift Aid on your subscription, please indicate on the BEACON New Member Form.

Download the Membership Application Form using the download button on the Menu Bar of the .pdf image below. After downloading you need to select the form from your Downloads folder and select Print. You can then complete it and return it to the address on the form. You can pay the appropriate membership fee by bank transfer using sort code 20-20-62 Account No 53252604 or by writing a cheque made payable to Littlehampton u3a and enclosing it with your Membership Application Form.

Please collect a Membership Application Form at a Coffee Morning or write enclosing a stamped, self-addressed envelope to:

Complete the form and post it back to the Membership Secretary at the above address. You can pay the appropriate membership fee by bank transfer using sort code 20-20-62 Account No 53252604 or by writing a cheque made payable to Littlehampton u3a and enclosing it with your Membership Application.

If you are already a member of any other u3a you may join Littlehampton u3a as an Associate Member for £6.00 per year since your primary u3a has already paid the Third Age Trust membership fee. You will need to provide us with a copy of your primary u3a membership card.

All members must:

  • abide by the principles of the u3a movement
  • act in the best interests of the u3a and never do anything that brings the u3a into disrepute
  • abide by the terms and conditions of the constitution
  • treat fellow u3a members with respect and courtesy at all times
  • comply with and support the decisions of the elected u3a committee
  • advise the committee of any changes to their personal details
  • abide by the members Code of Conduct (see under Constitution above )

Volunteering

Could you give a little bit of time? Would you like to join our volunteer team? Just a couple of hours a year would make a difference! We have speaker meetings and socials when we need help with the catering, signing in and greeting members; we have coffee mornings where you can chat with new members about what’s happening in your u3a. Please let us know if you can help.

If you applied for new membership of Littlehampton u3a using a downloaded form or one you requested by post from the Membership Secretary you can only access your membership details or renew your membership using Beacon online if you first register a username and password on the Beacon system. Instructions on how to do this are given in the .pdf below. You can also watch the video guide.
